MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Mountain Brook High School (Birmingham, Ala.) standout Kayla Dowler has signed her National Letter of Intent to play for University of Memphis women’s soccer, head coach Brooks Monaghan announced Thursday.

“Kayla is another versatile player in this class, and I know I’ve said that about quite a few of these signees,” Monaghan said. “Kayla may play center mid, outside mid or outside forward for us. She is technically very good and there is no doubt that she is going to add depth to our program. It’s a compliment when I say I’m not sure where Kayla will play because she is capable at all three of those. She definitely has the ability to play at this level and we look forward to seeing her career progress.”

Dowler helped Mountain Brook to a 16-6-1 record last spring and the squad was ranked fourth in the state of Alabama and 21st nationally. She helped the team to the state quarterfinals in 2012 and earned All-State honors.

On the club level, Dowler played for Birmingham United for four seasons and the Gwinnet Soccer Association for one year. She was part of the Alabama ODP state team from 2007-10.

Dowler enjoys reading, writing, art, scrapbooking and being outside. Her grandfather played for the Green Bay Packers (1959-69) and Washington Redskins (1971).

Why did Kayla Dowler choose the University of Memphis?
“I chose the University of Memphis because the players and coaches made me feel very welcomed when I visited the campus, and I love the style of play the team exhibits. Memphis isn't too far from home for me, and I could easily see myself there from the beginning.”

What does Kayla Dowler plan to major in at the University of Memphis?
“I plan to major in psychology.”
