MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of Memphis women's soccer team begins the spring season with a pair of games on Saturday, Feb. 21 in Little Rock, Ark. at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock. The Lady Tigers enter the spring season as two-time defending C-USA regular season and tournament champions, and boasting back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances with a 2008 final record of 15-5-2.
"We're really excited for this weekend," said head coach Brooks Monaghan. "Our coaching staff and our kids are really excited to get back out there and to compete. We're getting a chance to play against somebody other than ourselves."
The first game matches the Lady Tigers against the host, University of Arkansas-Little Rock at 11:30 a.m. The second game on Saturday's slate for Memphis is at 3:00 p.m. against Oklahoma State who finished the 2008 season ranked No. 13 in the country. Both games will be played with 35 minute halves.
"So far we've been pretty limited with what we can do in the spring," said Monaghan. "We just recently started our full spring practice schedule and I know the girls are ready to compete again. We have two good tests this weekend, especially in Oklahoma State who was in the top-10 in the country at a point last season. They are a very talented and well coached team and we're looking forward to the challenge."
