MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis women’s soccer coach Brooks Monaghan announced Wednesday that Jamaica U-20 star Nugene Nugent has signed her National Letter of Intent to join the program for the 2013-14 season. Nugent is the ninth addition to the 2013 signing class.

“It is always nice to add players with the experience that Nugene has,” Monaghan said. “She’s played on the U17 and U20 squads for Jamaica and she also has World Cup experience. Nugene will probably be a future Jamaica National Team member. She is another versatile player that is extremely technical and she has played a variety of roles throughout her career. Nugene is a two-time All-American and with that experience we expect her to come in and make our team better.”

Playing at Navarro College alongside fellow Memphis signee Ginesha Pickersgill, Nugent scored 23 goals and added 19 assists for the 17-3-2 squad in 2012. She garnered NJCAA All-American honors for the second-straight season as she was a first team selection in 2011 and a second team selection in 2012. She had multiple goals in seven games, including two hat tricks and five goals against Paris Junior College on September 22.

Nugent played in three matches for the Jamaican U20 squad at the 2012 CONCACAF Championships in Panama.
