@MemphisWSoccer Announces Spring Schedule
Feb. 25, 2014
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – With the departure of only one senior, head coach Brooks Monaghan and the University of Memphis women’s soccer team will use a six-game spring schedule to prepare for the 2014 season.
“We are really looking forward to a great spring with the schedule we have in place,” Monaghan said. “We are fortunate this year to get a bonus match by playing the Ghana Youth National Team. That presents a great opportunity as shortly after that match they will be playing in the World Cup.”
The Lady Tigers open the spring slate this Saturday, March 1, with a 5 p.m. match against Arkansas. The match against the Razorbacks will be played in North Little Rock at Burns Park.
Memphis will play in the Bluff City for four of the six matches, beginning on Thursday, March 6 against the Ghana Youth National Team. The match is set to kickoff at 7 p.m. at Mike Rose Soccer Complex.
After a lengthy break, the Lady Tigers host UT Martin at Mike Rose Soccer Complex on Saturday, March 29 for a 7 p.m. matchup. Vanderbilt visits the Lady Tigers on Saturday, April 5 for a 12 p.m. match at the University of Memphis Park Avenue Campus.
“This schedule gives everybody an opportunity to play and that is our approach in the spring,” Monaghan added. “Our approach in the spring is more geared toward individuals over team outcomes. We play to win, but we want to see all our players get significant minutes. This gives all players a chance to play at this level and look ahead to the fall.”
Memphis travels to UAB on Sunday, April 13 for a noon matchup before returning home for the final spring match against Arkansas State on Saturday, April 19. The match against the Red Wolves will take place at the Park Avenue Campus and be a 7 vs 7 match.
