Memphis Remains Undefeated In Spring Season With Win Over Arkansas State
March 18, 2011
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Christabel Oduro and Rasheeda Ansari scored goals to lift the University of Memphis women's soccer squad to a 2-0 victory over Arkansas State at Mike Rose Soccer Complex in game three of the spring schedule.
"In the spring season, it is about individual player getting better, but you also want to improve as a team," head coach Brooks Monaghan said. "I thought we hit a bump in the road last night. We can't be satisfied with that performance and as a staff and as a team, we are not satisfied."
With the win, the U of M improves to 2-0-1 this spring with three matches remaining on the spring schedule.
After 80 minutes of scoreless soccer, Oduro chipped in a shot from about six yards away to put the Lady Tigers on the board. Taylor Isenhower collected the assist on a pass from just outside the 18-yard box.
A few minutes later, Ansari received a pass from Oduro and connected on her third goal of the spring season. The goal gave Memphis a 2-0 lead with less than three minutes to play and Arkansas State could not muster any offense in the remaining match time.
Jordan Boyle had a clean sheet for Memphis, playing all 90 minutes in goal.
"We are looking forward to our next match so we can improve on what we put forth yesterday," Monaghan said. "We need to get back on track after we started the spring so well."
The Lady Tigers continue the spring slate on March 26 at 6 p.m. in Decatur, Ala., with a match against Alabama. The contest will be played at Jack Allen Soccer Complex in Decatur, Ala.
