MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of Memphis women's soccer team went 1-0-1 over the weekend, as they continued spring play against Auburn University and South Alabama.

In the first match of the day for the Lady Tigers, they went up against the Auburn Tigers. In a natural catfight, the two teams finished in a 1-1 draw. Freshman midfielder Vendula Strnadova scored Memphis' only goal in the match.

"Auburn is an NCAA tournament team and we also played them in the preseason," said Head Coach Brooks Monaghan. "It was a great game back and forth and we played well. The overall performance and effort of the team was good."

Memphis took on South Alabama in its second match of the day. With goals by junior midfielder Emiko Schwab and freshman midfielder Amanda Olszewski, the Tigers were victorious with a 2-0, showing.

"I felt that we were a little lackadaisical in the second match and we were just going through the motions," said Monaghan. "We were still able to get the result, which is what you play for. Up to this point in the spring, everything has been going very well. We have been struggling to stay consistent when we have two matches in one day. Although that is not a realistic situation, we still need to be able to have the same mentality come the second match."

Memphis will travel to Starkville, Miss. next weekend to face Mississippi State and Alabama on Saturday, April 5. The Tigers went 4-1, against the Southeastern Conference West in regular-season play.
