Lady Tigers Host Rivals Ole Miss in Spring Match
April 7, 2009
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of Memphis women's soccer team prepares to face SEC rival Ole Miss on Wednesday, April 8 at 7:00 p.m. in a late spring home match at Mike Rose Soccer Complex. "We're looking forward to the match," said head coach Brooks Monaghan. "Ole Miss has become a rival of ours and it will be a tough match. They have had a great spring so far. They tied Oklahoma State, they beat Texas and just beat Iowa the other day and each time we step on the field with them it has come to be a close game. The Lady Tigers are coming off a strong weekend showing against the University of Iowa where they downed the Hawkeyes in dominating fashion with a 4-0 victory on Sunday. Memphis comes into the game with a 4-0-1 spring record. "We are just fortunate to have the opportunity to play a great team in Ole Miss," said Monaghan. "Hopefully we can continue to improve ourselves even from Sunday. We are happy with the result, but we are more pleased with the fact that we are improving and moving in the right direction this spring."
During the non-conference portion of the schedule on Sept. 5, 2008, the Lady Tigers took on the Ole Miss Rebels in Oxford, Miss. Memphis downed the Rebels 2-1 bringing the series record to 4-7-1.
