April 8, 2010
Memphis, Tenn. - With four spring games in the seven game spring schedule complete, the University of Memphis women’s soccer squad will travel to Knoxville, Tenn. on Saturday for a pair of matches against in-state foes the University of Tennessee and Vanderbilt University. The Lady Tigers will battle the Lady Vols at 9:00 a.m. (CT) at Regal Soccer Stadium before matching up with the Commodores at 1:30 p.m. (CT). Tennessee completed the 2009 season with a record of 8-9-3 while Vanderbilt posted a record of 11-8-1. “Anytime you get a chance to play somebody from the SEC, the athletes really look forward to it,” Monaghan said. “All the teams in the SEC are good and we are looking forward to very competitive soccer matches. We are really focused on the fall and the players that prove themselves in practice will be the ones to step on the field and play.” The day will feature other soccer matches at Regal Soccer Stadium and the practice field for the Lady Vols. The Tennessee Collegiate Soccer Event features the Lady Tigers, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Tennessee Tech, Lincoln Memorial, Middle Tennessee, East Tennessee State, Tusculum, Belmont, Lee University and Carson Newman. “Practice has been going a little bit better here lately,” head coach Brooks Monaghan said. “We have had a few little bumps in the road in practice in regards to the mentality we want from the team. Overall, (Thursday’s) practice was a good practice and it was our last practice going into the weekend. I am a happy coach today.”
The three-time defending C-USA Champion Lady Tigers will return to Mike Rose Soccer Complex to complete the spring schedule with a match-up with Mississippi State on Fri. Apr. 16 at 7 p.m. |
