Women's Soccer Honors Players in Banquet
April 14, 2007 MEMPHIS - The Memphis women's soccer team celebrated its 2006 season Friday night during its annual banquet. Several of the Lady Tigers were honored for the their efforts in helping to lead Memphis to its first ever Conference USA Tournament semifinal appearance. After earning first team All-Conference USA honors for a second straight year senior Shoko Mikami was named the team's Most Valuable Offensive Player. Junior's Emiko Schwab and Kate Murphy were named Most Valuable Midfielder and Most Valuable Defensive Player respectively. The recipient of the squad's Spirit Award was sophomore Maggie Leone. Senior Nicky McLeod was given the Tiger Award, which goes to the team's hardest working player. Sophomore transfer Maiko Higashiyama was named the the team's Newcomer of the Year. The Japanese native was named to the C-USA Newcomer of the Year in November.
