Lady Tigers Drop Tough Match to Indiana 3-1
April 24, 2007 ST. LOUIS - The Memphis women's soccer team got off to a rough start Saturday in its first match of a doubleheader at Saint Louis University, dropping a 3-1 decision to the Indiana Hoosiers. "I really think that match was as poorly as we played in the spring," Memphis head coach Brooks Monaghan said. "We played as individuals, and we didn't play as a team. I think it was a reflection of the way we practiced leading up to Saturday. We had a rough week of practice, and we didn't put together a good team effort in the match." The Hoosiers got out of the gates quickly, with Ashley Seib netting a goal in the game's opening minutes. Kristin Arnold extended the lead to 2-0 late in the half with a goal of her own to give IU a 2-0 lead at the break. Memphis stayed even with the Hoosiers in the second half as Emiko Schwab headed in a corner kick to give the Lady Tigers their only goal of the match. Memphis failed to score on several breakaway opportunities that could have put it back into the contest. "We played better in the second half," Monaghan said. "We created some opportunities that we weren't able to capitalize on. We weren't able to put together a full sixty minutes, and we deserved to lose that match."
