April 28, 2014
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis women’s soccer head coach Brooks Monaghan announced Monday that defender/midfielder Naiara Kapstein of Santiago, Chile, will join the program for the upcoming 2014 season.
"It's always great to add a player of Naiara's caliber to our program," Monaghan said. "Anytime you can add a player with international experience, it's a huge bonus. Naiara has represented Chile on the U17/U20 levels and now the highest level with full national team and that speaks volumes of her abilities and the experience she will bring with her. Naiara is a versatile player that can play several positions. I think Naiara will suit our style of play well and we look forward to her joining the team."
Kapstein has had much international playing experience, spending two seasons with the U17 Chile Team from 2011-12, and three years playing for the U20 Chilean National Team. She has represented Chile in the U17 and U20 South American Games, and has recently been called up to the Full Chilean National Team.
Kapstein also spent time playing for club team Universidad Catolica where she was the top scorer for the U17 squad.
Kapstein attended prep school at Saint George’s College, graduating in 2013 with a 3.6 grade-point average. The daughter of Ian Kapstein and Irani Forner, she plans to major in exercise and sport science at Memphis.
