MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of Memphis women's soccer program has announced its 2009 fall schedule. All of the Lady Tigers' home games in 2009 will be played at Mike Rose Soccer Complex.

"We're very excited about our 2009 schedule," said head coach Brooks Monaghan. "We feel that the non-conference portion of our schedule is very challenging which will help prepare us for the competition within our league. C-USA is always a great challenge."

The defending C-USA Tournament champions are set to face three opponents who were 2008 NCAA Tournament participants and five who finished the 2008 season with an RPI under 100.

The 2008 C-USA regular season co-champs are slated to open the season on the road at the SEC Western Division regular season champions LSU on Friday, Aug. 21 at 7:00 p.m. The following weekend, the Lady Tigers host Arkansas-Little Rock in their home opener on Friday, Aug 28. At 7:00 p.m.

"We have some really tough games especially against a handful of SEC teams that we haven't seen in a couple years like LSU and Tennessee," said Monaghan. "Our non-conference schedule is maybe the strongest that we have ever had. We like to play great competition and I want to put our kids in a position where they are in a battle in every game."

The Lady Tigers stay at home for the next weekend's matches against the Ole Miss Rebels on Friday, Sept. 4 at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 6 at 1:00 p.m. against Sun Belt regular season champion Western Kentucky.

Memphis then hits the road for an all SEC weekend. The first stop is in Knoxville, Tenn. to face off against the 2008 SEC Tournament Champion Tennessee Volunteers on Friday, Sept. 11 at 7:00 p.m. The Lady Tigers then head to Tuscaloosa, Ala. on Sunday, Sept. 13 at 1:00 p.m. for a match with the Alabama Crimson Tide.

The Lady Tigers wrap up the non-conference schedule with a pair of home games, first against St. Louis University on Friday, Sept. 18 at 8:00 p.m. Then, the Lady Tigers welcome the University of Evansville who was in the Lady Tigers' bracket in the 2008 NCAA Tournament on Sunday, Sept. 20 at 1:30 p.m.

"Also, what our non-conference schedule does for our team is that we have the opportunity to see several different styles of play," said Monaghan. "We will get to see several different looks and some very high level soccer heading into our league play. If we succeed in non-conference play, with all these tough teams and their strong RPIs, and we make a run in our conference, we stand a good chance of being selected for the NCAA Tournament even if we don't win the conference tournament."

The defending Conference USA champions open conference play on the road. The first conference match is in Hattiesburg, Miss. against Southern Miss on Friday Sept. 25 at 4:00 p.m. On Sunday, Sept. 27, the Lady Tigers head to Orlando, Fla. for a match at 1:00 p.m. against UCF.

The Lady Tigers went 8-1 in October of 2008. The first weekend of October brings UTEP to Mike Rose for a match on Friday, Oct. 2 at 7:00 p.m. and then the Lady Tigers host Colorado College on Sunday, Oct. 4 at 1:00 p.m. Colorado College was the only team to beat Memphis in October of 2008.

Memphis then heads to Houston, Texas the following weekend for a match at the University of Houston on Friday, Oct. 9 at 7:00 p.m. and against Rice on Sunday, Oct. 11 at 1:00 p.m.

On Friday, Oct. 16, the Lady Tiger host SMU at 7:00 p.m. and wrap up the weekend with another home match against Tulsa on Sunday, Sept. 18 at 1:00 p.m.

To finish the C-USA road games, the Lady Tigers head to Huntington, W.Va. on Friday Oct. 23 at 7:00 p.m. to take on the Marshall Thundering Herd. The final road game for the Lady Tiger is in Greenville, N.C. on Sunday, Oct. 25 at 1:00 p.m. against the East Carolina Pirates who the Lady Tigers tied for the C-USA regular season title in 2008. The final game of the 2008 regular season for the Lady Tigers is in Memphis on Thursday, Oct. 29 at 7:00 p.m. against the UAB Blazers.

The Conference USA Tournament will be held in Dallas, Texas and hosted by SMU from Wednesday, Nov. 4 through Sunday, Nov. 8. The Lady Tigers have tied for first place in the C-USA regular season and won the C-USA Tournament title in each of the past two seasons.
