MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Elite goalkeeper Maryse Bard-Martel signed a National Letter of Intent and joins the University of Memphis women’s soccer program for the 2013 season, head coach Brooks Monaghan announced Tuesday.

"It's always great to add a player to the roster that brings the amount of experience that Maryse does," Monaghan said. "She's played for Canada in the U17 World Cup and I believe that she has a lot of potential that can be developed further by coach Jonny Walker. She possess all the qualities you look for in a goalkeeper and the time she will spend with Jonny will only improve her game."

Bard-Martel is a standout goalkeeper that has earned time between the posts for the U17 Canada National Team in the 2012 FIFA World Cup in Azerbaijan. The Boisbriand, Quebec, Canada native did not play for her high school squad, but Bard-Martel brings experience with FC Boisbriand. The club team claimed the Quebec championship in 2009 and 2010 while finishing third among all Canadian club teams in both seasons. Earned the Golden Glove award in 2009 and set record for fewest goals allowing in 2011.

A teammate of signee Valerie Sanderson much of her career, Bard-Martel is a current member of the U20 National Pool for Canada Women’s Soccer.
