Canada Soccer Invites Three Lady Tigers to U20 Excel Camp in Vancouver
June 12, 2013
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Canada soccer recently announced that three University of Memphis women's soccer players will participate in the Women's National Excel camp that features members of the Canada Women's U20 roster.
"It's always good to see any of our players get these opportunities to play for their country at this level," head coach Brooks Monaghan said. "The competitive environment helps get each of them ready for the fall and this experience can only improve each player. This is a fantastic opportunity for each of these players."
Canada will play host for the 2014 FIFA U20 Women's World Cup and the 22 prospective players are looking to impress the Canada Soccer staff in hopes of making the roster for the event. Junior midfielder Kylie Davis is joined by incoming freshmen Valerie Sanderson and Maryse Bard-Martel as the three Lady Tigers on the 22 player camp roster.
Davis appeared on the Canada U20 roster in the World Cup last season with Tigers teammate Christabel Oduro. Sanderson, who started her Memphis career in the spring semester, and Bard-Martel have each been members of the Canada U17 team. The camp in Vancouver, BC, Canada, began on Monday and concludes on Monday, June 17.
