Memphis, Tenn. - Lady Tigers head soccer coach Les Szabo received a commitment today from Katarina Wicksell from Halmsted, Sweden.

Wicksell is a 20 year-old keeper who debuted for the Swedish Under-18 National Team in 1997 and led them to a 3rd place finish in the Under-18 European Tournament in 1998. She now plays in the top women's league in Sweden where she is the starting keeper for the sixth place team out of twelve in the league. It is her team's first season in the premiership.

"Katarina is a great goalkeeper," says Szabo. "We expect her to come in and have an immediate impact on the team. I saw her play in Sweden, and she is a very impressive player."

The Lady Tigers' goalkeeper for four of the last five seasons has been Frances Currin, who finished her eligibility at the conclusion of last season, and all of the contenders for the starting keeper spot are incoming freshmen. Wicksell is the sixth signee for the Lady Tigers thus far, and Szabo is expecting more in the coming weeks.
