Memphis, Tenn. -

University of Memphis women’s soccer head coach Brooks Monaghan announced Wednesday the addition of Anna Butzlaff to the 2009 Lady Tigers roster.

“It is great to add a student-athlete with the ability that Anna has this late in the recruiting period,” said Monaghan. “Anna is going to come in and compete and add tremendous depth to our midfield.”

The Brookfield, Wis. native comes to the University of Memphis as an academic sophomore, but maintains all athletic eligibility after redshirting the 2008 season at Butler University. Butzlaff is expected to play midfielder and forward for the Lady Tigers. “Anna is very versatile and can also add depth up front,” said Monaghan. “She is a very technical player that fits the team’s style of play.”

Prior to enrolling at Butler University, Butzlaff was a member of the Wisconsin Olympic Development Program (ODP) Team from 2002 to 2007. She received all-state honorable mention and all-conference honorable mention as a senior. A first team all-state recipient as a sophomore, she helped FC Milwaukee to state titles six times and regional semifinalist showings twice. She finished her high school career the top ten all-time in total points and led the squad to the WIAA Division I state championship in 2005.

With the addition of Butzlaff to the Lady Tiger roster, a total of eight newcomers will join the back-to-back Conference-USA Champions for the 2009 season.
