Three Lady Tigers Garner Preseason Honors From College Sports Madness
Aug 13, 2013
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - College Sports Madness announced their preseason picks for the American Athletic Conference on Tuesday and three University of Memphis women's soccer standouts were first team selections.
Two-time Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year Christabel Oduro, along with midfielder Kylie Davis and defender Diamond Simpson, were chosen to the American Preseason All-Conference squad. College Sports Madness has counted down the top-44 teams in women's soccer and pegged the Lady Tigers No. 30.
Oduro enters her senior season on the cusp of school records in many categories. Oduro has scored 32 goals in her career to rank third all-time and added 19 career assists, which ranks fourth. With 83 points in her three years, Oduro needs 20 points to break the program's all-time scoring record of 102 points by Kylie Hayes.
Davis, a first team All-C-USA pick a season ago, has been chosen as the team captain for 2013. The junior midfielder scored five goals and provided six assists in 2012. Oduro and Davis' 2012 campaign was shortened by playing in the 2012 FIFA U20 World Cup for Canada.
A second team All-C-USA and NSCAA All-Central Region pick, Simpson helped a young Memphis defense limit 10 opponents to one or fewer goals last season. Simpson played forward early in the season before settling in to a role on defense.
The Lady Tigers play the first of two exhibition matches on Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Arkansas State at Mike Rose Soccer Complex. Admission to the match is FREE.
