Lady Tigers Soccer Picked Fifth in C-USA Preseason Poll

Irving, Texas - The University of Memphis women's soccer team was picked to finish fifth in Conference USA in the league's preseason poll, as released by the league's office today. SMU was picked to finish first, UCF, Colorado College and UTEP were right behind, while Memphis filled out the top five.
The Lady Tigers posted an 11-6-3 mark in the 2006 season, finishing third in regular season play, and qualifying for the C-USA tournament semifinals. They are coached by Brooks Monaghan, who is in his eighth season with the team and is the programs most winningest coach, with a 62-65-8 record.
Memphis returns 16 of 28 letterwinners. They will be led by Kylie Hayes, Maiko Higashiyama and Kate Murphy. Hayes is a returning junior forward and is the team's leader in goals. Junior midfielder, Higashiyama, was selected as Conference USA Newcomer of the Year in 2006 and was also selected to the 2007 preseason All-Conference USA Team. Junior defender, Murphy was named to the All-Conference USA Second Team last season.
The Lady Tigers begin their season with two exhibition matches, the first at Auburn (Aug. 19) and home against Western Kentucky (Aug. 25). They open up their regular season at home against the University of Arkansas-Little Rock on Friday, Aug. 31, at 5:30 p.m.
