"We want to see some progress in all the different areas as we go into our second exhibiton," head coach Brooks Monaghan said. "Auburn presents a big challenge as they are a very good team so we are looking forward to it. This match should let us know where we are at as we face a team at this caliber."

"It's all the little things that we talk about in practice that we want to see improve. We know we are not where we want to be a week from now, but that is ok at this point. We just need to see more improvement."

Junior transfer Nugene Nugent made an immediate impact in Wednesday's exhibition as she scored two goals and dished out two assists. Senior forward Christabel Oduro opened the scoring and assisted freshman Val Sanderson on the second goal of the match. Junior Carly Cassady closed the scoring in the 50th minute.

Sophomore goalkeeper Christa Strickland made two saves in the start. She logged 60 minutes before freshman Maryse Bard-Martel entered the match and closed out the shutout.

"It's great to go on the road with this young team," Monaghan added. "Our players have done great to this point, but sometimes a road trip helps the team bond. I feel that this is already a close nit group, but it is important to get a taste of playing on the road. It's important to get that feel of what the season is like on the road, both on and off the field."

Memphis opens the regular season on Friday, August 23 at 7 p.m. against Samford at Mike Rose Soccer Complex.
