GAMEDAY CENTRAL: Lady Tigers vs. Samford
Aug 22, 2013
MEMPHIS, Tenn.- A new season has arrived for Memphis women's soccer. The Lady Tigers host Samford to kickoff the 2013 campaign on Friday at Mike Rose Soccer Complex at 7 p.m. Coming off a 10-8-1 season, the U of M is eager to restore national respect for the program.
"I feel that we've had a tremendous preseason," head coach Brooks Monaghan said. "The girls mentality and work rate has been fantastic and I am expecting a lot of energy out of the team when we hit the field tomorrow."
Five games have been played in the all-time series with Samford and the Bulldogs hold a slim 3-2 edge. Only one match, a 3-0 Memphis win in 2010, has been decided by two or more goals in the series.
"Samford is a very well coached team and we will have our hands full with that team," Monaghan said. "We are playing a quality opponent in Samford and they give a lot of teams problems. We know we'll have a battle on our hands."
The Lady Tigers return nine starters from a year ago, but a talented group of 12 newcomers will challenge for a spot in the starting 11 on Friday.
"I see a lot of potential in the group," Monaghan said. "We still need the team to gel and move in the right direction and I feel that this team is. We have a few injuries here and there and that makes it tough at times, but we will play with who is available and expect big things from them."
New this season, GoTigersGo.com will feature a Gameday Central page as a centralized location for all links related to the matches. Find game notes (when available), gametracker links, live stream, live twitter feed, live chat (when available) and the featured gameday program.
