IRVING, Texas - Freshman forward Melissa Smith, earns her first ever Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week recognition for the week ending, Sept. 2., announced by the league office today.

Smith scored the game-winning goal for the Tigers in a double overtime 2-1 win on the road at Arkansas. Smith's goal came with just three minutes remaining on the clock. She also scored a goal in the Tigers' 7-1 victory over Arkansas-Little Rock in Friday's season opener. Smith is one of three Memphis freshmen to score goals over the weekend. This is the second year in a row that Memphis has started the season 2-0 and the third time in the past four years.
