Lady Tigers Look to Bounce Back

The Lady Tiger soccer team returns to action Sunday at 1 pm against SunBelt Conference member Western Kentucky University at Mike Rose Soccer Complex.
Memphis is eager to return to the pitch after a 1-0 loss to Ole Miss Friday. The Lady Tigers surrendered the lone goal in the match on a rebounded shot in the 77th minute. Memphis outshot Ole Miss 9-7 placing five shots on goal compared to two shots on goal for Ole Miss. Western Kentucky travels to Memphis after opening the season with a three game home stand. The Hilltoppers defeated Butler 1-0 on Aug. 21 and played host to Southern Indiana and Eastern Kentucky. Led by freshman midfielder Christen Sims first career goal the Hilltoppers defeated Southern Indiana 3-2 on Aug. 28. Sims scored the goal 91 seconds into the match while freshman midfielder Sydney Sisler and junior midfielder Nikki Workman also tallied goals in the win. Senior midfielder Kellie Walker netted a goal on a header in the final minute against Eastern Kentucky giving WKU the 1-0 win on Aug. 30.
Memphis’ defense has limited opponents to 13 shots in three matches played. The Lady Tiger offense has outshot opponents 48-13 and holds a 25-3 shots on goal advantage.
Sundays matchup will be the first ever regular season matchup between the Lady Tigers and Lady Toppers. Last season, Memphis traveled to WKU for an exhibition match which ended in a scoreless tie. Memphis defeated WKU 1-0 in a 2007 preseason match on an 89th minute goal by then freshman Vendula Strnadova.
Tickets for the game can be purchased at the gate of Mike Rose Soccer Complex. Adult (13 and up) tickets are $5 while youth (6-12) tickets are $3. Children 5 and under will be admitted for free. U of M students can get in for free with a valid Student-ID.
