The Lady Tiger soccer team has battled through three weekends of non-conference play and is now faced with one last weekend of two tough non-conference opponents.

“It’s another weekend of two tough matches,” said head coach Brooks Monaghan. “We are preparing for conference play and we want to play the best teams we can to be ready when conference play begins.”

Memphis will welcome the Saint Louis University Billikens to Mike Rose Soccer Complex on Friday Sept. 18th for an 8 pm kick-off. The Lady Tigers will then play their third consecutive Friday-Sunday matches as they play host to the University of Evansville Purple Aces on Sunday Sept. 20 at 1:30 pm.

Memphis went one-for-two on the weekend for the second consecutive weekend. The Lady Tigers battled Tennessee to a 1-1 tie that was broken in the 87th minute, giving the Lady Vols the 2-1 victory. Memphis bounced back on Sunday and defeated Alabama 2-1 after a goal in the 85th minute by sophomore midfielder Lizzy Hildebrandt.

The Billikens travels to the Bluff City after hosting a pair of military academies last weekend. SLU lost a 1-0 decision to Army on Friday Sept. 11. SLU out-shot Army 23-5, including a 10-3 shots on goal advantage, but could not score a goal. SLU returned to action on Sunday Sept. 13 and knocked off Air Force 1-0 on the heels of an 87th minute goal by SLU senior Ashley Hayes. “Saint Louis has always been known as a strong soccer program and it’s extremely exciting to play them,” Monaghan said. “It was unfortunate to lose them with conference re-alignments because we were starting to build a rivalry with them. They have had a lot of success and we will have our hands full. They are team that is always fighting to win their conference and fighting to get into the NCAA tournament.”

Junior midfielder Vendula Strnadova needs two shots to be in fourth place on the all-time shots list as a Lady Tiger. Strnadova has posted 131 shots in her three seasons at the U of M and is one shot shy of fourth place record holder Jennifer Vossen (1995-98).

Monaghan has reached 98 wins in his coaching career at the University of Memphis and will be vying for his 100th win this weekend with the two game home-stand against Saint Louis University and the University of Evansville.

Lady Tiger fans can access live streaming audio and video of the match against SLU on the all-access page of the Memphis Tigers at www.gotigersgo.com. Fans can also view an interview with Lizzy Hildebrandt on the all-access page. Admission to Friday night’s match will be free.
