MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of Memphis women's soccer team will host two matches over the weekend. They are set to compete against the Rebels of Ole Miss on Friday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. and then play the Bulldogs of Mississippi State on Sunday, Sept. 23, at 1 p.m.

The Lady Tigers and Rebels last met in 2006, where the Rebels won in a 3-0 decision. The Lady Tigers are on a two game winning streak having beaten SEC opponent Alabama last Sunday and Ohio Valley opponent UT Martin on Tuesday. The Rebels have beaten both Conference USA opponents, Rice and UCF, in their last two games. Memphis is ranked 10th in the NSCAA/Adidas Central Region Rankings, while Ole Miss is ranked 8th.

Mississippi State is on a one game winning streak. Last year, Memphis beat the Bulldogs 2-0 on the road. The Lady Tigers and Bulldogs have an even history having won five games a piece in addition to two ties.

The Lady Tigers soccer team is coming off a 4-1 win, over the Skyhawks of UT Martin. Memphis scored all of its goals in a second half rally.

In the second half junior Harumi Someya notched the Lady Tigers first goal of the match as she took on the goalkeeper and made a shot from the left. Someya has scored three goals this season and was the spark the Lady Tigers needed tonight to become aggressive.

After Memphis' first goal by Someya, they seemed to be on a roll. The freshmen duo of Melissa Smith and Vendula Strnadova were at it again as they scored a pair of goals, back-to-back within two minutes of each other. The pair has combined for a total of nine goals in six matches. Smith's goal was kicked from 20 yards out and nailed deep into the net, while Strnadova's was from about 15 yards out.

Freshman Krista Turner netted her first goal of the season with a cross from the right-hand side, to give the Lady Tigers the 4-1 lead they needed to put the match away. The Lady Tigers had 15 shots in the second half, compared to the four shots in the first half.
