Memphis, Tenn. - After a nine-day break from game action, the University of Memphis opens the second half of their 2003 women's soccer schedule with a match against in-state rival UT-Martin Wednesday at Echles Field on the U of M campus. The Lady Tigers (1-6-3, 0-3-1 C-USA) will look to snap a four-match winless streak in which their three losses have all come by just one goal.

"Our girls have had some time to regroup and get healthy here in the past week or so, but now its time to start playing soccer like I know we are capable of," Memphis Head Coach Brooks Monaghan said. "We have the confidence and ability to have a strong second half of the season and we get our chance to show that Wednesday against UT-Martin."

The Skyhawks (5-3-2, 0-1-1 OVC) have defeated Memphis just once in three tries in the all-time series with their lone victory coming last season in a 3-2 double-overtime decision. Memphis posted a pair of shutouts in the first two meetings defeating UTM 9-0 in 1998 and 3-0 in 2001.

Memphis forward Yuiko Konno leads the Lady Tigers with four goals and nine points while fellow junior Kirsty Marr is second on the team with a trio of goals. UT-Martin sophomore Katie Jackson has a team-high nine goals as she leads a high-scoring Skyhawks' offense that has outscored its opponents 25-11 in 10 matches.

The match with the Skyhawks is the first of two non-conference matches at home for the Lady Tigers before they return to league play at Houston Sunday. Memphis hosts Alabama A&M Friday with kickoff set for 7 p.m. at Echles Field.
