Lady Tigers Hosts Rice in Nationally Televised Game

Memphis, Tenn. - The Memphis women's soccer team faces off against the Rice Owls on Sunday, Oct. 12 at 12:00 p.m. at Mike Rose Soccer Complex. The Lady Tigers enter the game with a 7-4-1 record and a 3-2-0 record against C-USA opponents. The Rice Owls come into Sunday with a 7-5-0 overall record and 3-2-0 against C-USA teams. The game is nationally televised by CBS College Sports and is scheduled to be broadcast at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14. The game is also "Pack the House" day at Mike Rose. The Lady Tigers took down the Houston Cougars in a 1-0 battle at Mike Rose on Friday. Freshman goalkeeper Nikki Unland registered her first start as a Lady Tiger. Her four save performance helped Memphis to a 1-0 win and got Unland her first collegiate shut out. Sophomore midfielder Vendula Strnadova netted her third goal of 2008 in the 71st minute of the 1-0 victory over Houston. Junior midfielder Laura Laufenberg was credited with the assist on the only goal of the contest. The Rice Owls are coming off of a 5-2 loss at the hands of UAB on Friday night. The Owls have a 7-4-1 record overall and are tied with the Lady Tigers for third place in the C-USA standings. Memphis travels to SMU on Friday to take on the Mustangs on Oct. 17 at 7:00 p.m. and then goes to Tulsa to take on the Golden Hurricane on Sunday, Oct 19 at 1:00 p.m. The Lady Tigers have one more home game following Sunday's match against Marshall on Oct. 24 at 6:00 p.m. at Mike Rose Soccer Complex.
