Women's Soccer to Host Rice and Houston
Oct. 19, 2006
MEMPHIS - After four consecutive road games, the Memphis women's soccer team will return to the Mike Rose Soccer Complex to host Rice and Houston in its final two home matches of the year. The Lady Tigers will play Rice at 7 p.m. Friday and will face Houston on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Memphis (7-6-2, 3-2-1 C-USA) currently sits at fourth in the conference standings after suffering its first two conference losses last week. The Lady Tigers are still just two points behind UTEP for fourth place with three matches remaining.
"We're definitely looking forward to getting home this weekend after four matches on the road," said Memphis head coach Brooks Monaghan. "Obviously, we're a little disappointed with the way we performed last week, but we're still in the race."
Rice (10-4-1, 2-4-0 C-USA) escaped with a 1-0 victory against Tulsa last weekend before suffering a tough 5-1 loss to conference-leader SMU. The Owls clinched the win over the Golden Hurricane with freshman Erin Scott's goal early in the second half.
Houston also enters the match after losing to SMU last weekend and beating Tulsa in double overtime. The Cougars (8-8-0, 2-4-0 C-USA) enter the match tied with the Owls for seventh place and are looking for a win to secure their place in the C-USA Tournament.
"This is a big weekend for us, not just because it will have implications on where we are in the conference tournament," said Monaghan. "We also want to perform well for these girls, who have worked hard during their careers to make us a successful program."
The Lady Tigers will conclude their regular season at UAB on Oct. 27.
