Three @MemphisWSoccer Players Earn Weekly Accolades

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Strong performances by Christabel Oduro, Maryse Bard-Martel and Valerie Sanderson were recognized on Monday as the American Athletic Conference released the weekly awards for women’s soccer.
Oduro was named the Offensive Player of the Week after netting a pair of goals and dishing out three assists in Memphis’ two victories to close the regular season. The Brampton, Ontario native sent in an insurance goal in the Lady Tigers 3-0 win over Temple and chipped in an assist on the final goal of the match. Sunday, Oduro tied the career goal record with her 43rd goal and dished out two assists in Memphis’ dominating 5-1 win over UConn. This is the sixth time in Oduro’s career she has garnered weekly honors from a league office.
The freshman netminder posted the Lady Tigers first shutout in league play, a 3-0 clean sheet against Temple. Bard-Martel finished the weekend with 10 saves in the two matches, stopping eight shots by UConn. The Boisbriand, Quebec native climbed to 70 saves on the season, six shy of the freshman goalkeeper record.
Sanderson continued her standout freshman campaign with two more goals on the weekend. The Boisbriand, Quebec native scored the third goal in the Lady Tigers win against Temple and added the game-winner against UConn on Sunday. Sanderson has a team-high 13 goals and is tied for American Athletic Conference lead. Her 13 goals is one shy of the school’s freshman record.
Memphis takes on Houston in the first round of the American Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday at Louisville. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. (CT).
