IRVING, Texas - University of Memphis women's soccer defender Lizzy Simonin was recognized for the third time this season as the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Simonin led the Memphis defensive unit to a single-season school record 13th shutout on Thursday at UAB. The Lady Tigers held the opposition to five shots in the match, none on which were on goal. With the shutout, Memphis capped an undefeated regular season, the C-USA Regular Season Title and No. 1 seed in the C-USA Women's Soccer Championship.

With her third recognition as defensive player of the week, Simonin joins Christabel Oduro as the only Lady Tigers to be honored as the league's player of the week three times in one season. Memphis has had nine players of the week selections this season, the most for any team in league history.

Memphis begins C-USA Tournament play on Wednesday at approximately 8 p.m. against Tulsa. The C-USA Women's Soccer Championship, hosted by Memphis at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex, kicks off on Wednesday at noon.
