MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Two Lady Tiger soccer student-athletes were named to the 2011 CoSIDA/ESPN Academic All-District IV Teams, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) committee on Tuesday.
Earning first team honors for the second-straight season, senior midfielder Vendula Strnadova becomes the first Lady Tiger to be honored by the Academic All-America committee three times. Strnadova was a second team selection in 2008 before earning first team honors in 2009. The Las Cruces, N.M., native, holds a 3.97 grade-point average in exercise and sport science curriculum.
Junior midfielder/defender Lizzy Hildebrandt was named to the third team. Hildebrandt holds a 3.82 grade-point average in mechanical engineering and has played in every match this season. The Calgary, Alberta, Canada native, scored two goals and added three assists this season.
With two honorees this season, Memphis has placed two or more student-athletes on the all-region team the last four seasons and six out of the last seven seasons. Strnadova will now appear on the ballot for the CoSIDA/ESPN Academic All-America to be announced later this month.
The Lady Tigers open defense of their three-straight C-USA Tournament Championships on Friday at 4 p.m. (CT) against the winner of the Houston/Marshall match-up. The 2010 C-USA Women’s Soccer Championship begins on Wednesday in Orlando, Fla.
