The Last Five Minutes with Elise Kuhar-Pitters
Nov. 2, 2011
Well it's that time of the year again...post season. Something that this team is very familiar with and I am so proud to say that for the first time in program history, we have won the regular season outright. No tying, no second or third...first. This is proof that hard work does pay off and no matter who was on the field with us; we had the determination to win. Being a part of this program since our first conference championship has been an adventure. There were ups and downs along this road and nothing has come easy. With every win, the target on our back has gotten bigger, but we have always found a way to stay in our bubble and take care of the task at hand, and this year is no different. We always say `one game at a time' and we don't focus on anything else. The rankings, the other teams and the publicity all take backseat to what we want to accomplish. Last Thursday our game against UAB was our last regular season game. They are a team that is always difficult to play because you never know what they're going to bring, but like we always say, we need to play our game and we'll have success. The first half was scoreless. We had our chances, but couldn't put them away. That didn't deter us because we knew that a goal was going to come. The second half we came out hard and within a minute and a half of each other KK got us on the board with two goals. UAB tried to counter, but the defense proved why we have the statistics we do--they didn't let a shot on goal. With the final seconds winding down, I couldn't help but think to myself that it was at UAB's field three years ago that we were co-regular season champions. Now we're here again and won it for ourselves. With a little less than a week until the first conference game, practice was different from the norm. Friday and Saturday were practice days, but Sunday was a day to have some fun. Along with the men's team, we got dressed up in Halloween costumes and played games. The creativity and talent on this team reaches far from the soccer field. The Blue Man Crew, Pinky and the Brain, KISS and Avatars were just a few that were present. Monday was a day to rest and Tuesday was back to business to prepare for Tulsa on Wednesday. It's an unexplainable feeling to go into this week with the things that we have accomplished so far. Having an undefeated season is something that a lot of teams talk about, but few actually do. At the beginning of the season we set goals to have success and to reach them is a testament of the determination and strength of this team. Being a part of this is something I never thought would happen and it's something that I don't want to end, so if we keep playing our game and focus on one game at a time I don't see why we can't keep the season going. Great things await us, so let's go out there and make it happen!
