C-USA Championship Bracket
HOUSTON, TEXAS - The University of Memphis women's soccer team earns a ticket to the championship game of the C-USA Tournament on Sunday for the second year in a row. The championship will be broadcast on CBS College Sports.
"It's great to be back in the championship game," said head coach Brooks Monaghan. "To get a chance to get back to back appearances in the conference championship is spectacular. We're looking forward to playing ECU again just like we were looking forward to playing UCF again. We get a chance at an opponent that we didn't beat earlier in the year. We also now get a chance to prove that we're the best team in the conference."
The tournament field that started with eight teams has been narrowed down to just two. Memphis (14-4-2) will take on East Carolina (14-3-4) on Sunday, Nov. 9 at 1:00 p.m. at the Rice Soccer and Track Stadium in Houston, Texas for the conference crown.
The Lady Tigers knocked off the UCF Knights on Friday night 2-0 to advance to the championship game. Sophomores Ashley Berra and Krista Turner netted late goals in the match sending the Lady Tigers to the title game.
The ECU Pirates and the Memphis Lady Tigers tied for the C-USA regular season title. The two teams met late in the conference season at Greenville, N.C. and played to a 3-3 tie and meet again on Sunday to decide the tournament champion.
"It's going to be a very tough game, and give East Carolina credit for what they've done because they've had a great season," said Monaghan. "They have proven that they are one of the top teams in the conference and it should be a great soccer game."
The winner of the game between Memphis and ECU earns the C-USA Tournament championship as well as an automatic bid into the 2008 NCAA Women's Soccer Championship when the 64 team field is announced on Monday night.
