Lady Tigers Honored at Halftime of Men's Basketball Game Against Marist

MEMPHIS, TENN. - The University of Memphis women's soccer team will be recognized for their achievements during its 2008 season at halftime of the men's basketball game on Tuesday, Dec. 2 at 7:00 p.m. as the Tigers take on Marist. The Lady Tigers shared the Conference USA regular season title in 2007 with UCF and won the 2007 C-USA Tournament with a 2-0 victory over UCF in the championship game. Head coach Brooks Monaghan's Lady Tigers were selected as the C-USA coaches' preseason favorite. They battled through the 2008 regular season finishing 12-3-2 overall with an 8-2-1 record against C-USA teams and shared the C-USA regular season title with East Carolina. After receiving the No. 2 seed in the 2008 C-USA Tournament, the Lady Tigers shut out UAB and UCF 2-0 in the first two rounds. In the C-USA Championship game, the Lady Tigers were pitted against the same team who they shared the regular season title with, the East Carolina Pirates. Memphis upended the Pirates 4-1 to earn the Conference USA Tournament crown and an automatic bid to the 2008 NCAA Women's Soccer Championship. The back-to-back C-USA Champions returned to the NCAA Championship for the second time to face the University of Illinois in the first round. On a cold and rainy evening in Columbia, Mo., the Lady Tigers battled into double overtime with the Illini, but were eliminated as Illinois scored the game's only goal in the 112th minute of the match. The Lady Tigers finished the 2008 season with an 8-2-1 C-USA record and a 15-5-2 overall record.
