The U of M (5-4) jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning on a home run by pitcher Vanessa Walle. The homer of the left field fence is the first in the junior transfer's collegiate career at Memphis. The loss snaps a four game winning streak for the Tigers. Drexel (1-0) countered in the bottom of the second with the first of two home runs by first baseman Sandi Wambold. The Dragons then scored two more runs in the third inning on one hit and an error. Wambold hit her second solo homer of the game in the sixth inning. Memphis matched Drexel in hits at five, but left six runners on base with three in scoring position. Walle (2-1) allowed three earned runs on five hits in a complete game effort with three strikeouts and two walks. The Phoenix, Ariz., native also led the team in hitting with a 2-for-3 performance and had a double to go along with her home run. Katrina Gaudier (1-0) earned the victory for Drexel in the team's season debut, allowing one run on five hits with one strikeout. The Tigers will next play Iowa at 5:30 p.m. (EST) today in the tournament hosted by Kennesaw State. Memphis plays Buffalo and Kennesaw State on Saturday and closes the weekend against Miami (OH) on Sunday.
