PINE BLUFF, Ark. - The University of Memphis softball team swept a doubleheader at Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Thursday, winning 15-2 and 3-1.

The Tigers (8-7) collected 26 hits in the two games compared to three by the Lady Lions. Senior second baseman Tori Gross led Memphis in hitting with six hits on the day and four RBI. Junior outfielder Leigh Rowan went 2-for-4 in game one with four RBI.

Memphis fell behind early in both games as UAPB scored the first run in each contest. The Tigers used a nine-run seventh inning in game one to win easily 15-2. In game two, the U of M scored all three of its runs in the fifth inning for the 3-1 victory.

Sophomore Kimber Bossom (3-1) allowed just one hit in seven innings for the victory in game one. Bossom struck out seven and allowed one earned run. The lone hit came on a double in the first inning.

Sophomore Janelle Valle (3-4) allowed two hits in seven innings and struck out eight for the victory in game two.

Memphis will next host the third annual Blues City Classic beginning on Friday. The Tigers will open the three-day tournament against UMKC at 1 :30 p.m. at the Tiger Softball Complex. The six-team tournament will conclude on Sunday.
