Rowan Belts Walk-Off Three-Run Dinger as Memphis Beats Drexel, 5-2

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - With a tied ballgame in the bottom of the seventh with two outs, Leigh Rowan drove a three-run walk-off home run to give the University of Memphis softball team a 5-2 victory over Drexel on Friday. The home run gave freshman Carly Hummel (3-2) her third win of the season and fourth in a row for the Tigers (6-3). Hummel allowed just one hit in the game for her second-straight one-hitter. Rowan and Lelani Bernardino both had three hits in the contest to lead the Tigers in the team's first game of the UCSB Gaucho Classic. Memphis outhit Drexel, 9-1. With the home run, Rowan moves into fifth place all-time in school history with 11 career home runs. The senior also leads the team with 13 RBI this season and is tied for the team lead in homers with two. Memphis took a 1-0 lead in the first inning after Maddie McKinley earned a bases loaded walk to score Bernardino. The Tigers then increased its lead to two with a double by Bernardino in the second inning to score Alyssa Palmieri from second. The double is the first of the season for the sophomore outfield and knocked in her fourth RBI. In the fourth inning, Drexel (3-5) scored its first run with a RBI on a ground out. Rachel Campbell then tied the game in the fifth with an RBI two-out double to left field. Campbell's hit was the only one for Drexel in the game. The Tigers continue the UCSB Gaucho Classic with a game against North Dakota State (7-5) in the night cap. NDSU was a NCAA super regional team last season.
