Final Day of Softball's Blues City Classic Snowed Out
March 1, 2009
For Immediate Release
MEMPHIS - The final day of the University of Memphis softball's Blues City Classic at the Tiger Softball Complex on Sunday has been cancelled due to the winter weather that played havoc on the Mid-South this weekend.
After weather resulted in only two games being played in the tournament in the first two days, four-to-eight inches of snow fell Saturday night, making the field unplayable.
The third annual tournament originally featured six teams but was shortened to three due to the expected weather problems. The Tigers lost to UMKC, 9-4, in the opening game of the tournament on Friday. North Dakota then beat UMKC, 5-4, in a game that was postponed in the third inning on Friday and completed on Saturday.
Memphis will next host a midweek doubleheader with Central Arkansas on Tuesday at the Tiger Softball Complex at 4 and 6 p.m.
