Memphis Falls as North Texas Rally's Late; Drops second game to Oklahoma

NORMAN, Okla. - North Texas staged a four-run seventh inning rally to defeat the University of Memphis softball team in a heartbreaking 5-4 loss on Sunday at the Residence Inn Invitational at the OU Softball Complex. The Tigers then lost 10-0 in five innings to #9/10 Oklahoma.
Memphis falls to 9-8 on the season and finish the tournament 1-3 after losing the final three games. The Tigers next will play a doubleheader at Alcorn State on Tuesday before hosting a doubleheader with Central Arkansas on Wednesday and a three-game series with Marshall to open conference play on Saturday and Sunday.
Senior centerfielder Lindsay Kelso led the U of M with three hits in the two games with an RBI against North Texas and a double against Oklahoma. Freshman first baseman Kailey Kassner went 2-for-3 with two RBI against North Texas.
Memphis scored the first run of the game against the Mean Green in the second inning on a bases loaded walk. Two singles and an error loaded the bases for the Tigers allowing junior Leila Dolfo to draw the two out walk to score senior Melissa Nance. Junior Leandra Hines nearly added to the score with a sinking hit up the middle that was snagged by the second baseman for the third out.
North Texas evened the score in the top of the third, scoring a run after leading off with a walk and back-to-back singles. The Tigers ended the threat, forcing the Mean Green to strand runners on second and third with nobody out.
The Tigers regained its one-run lead in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Kelso. Dolfo led off the inning with a single to right center and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Hines. Kelso then ripped a single off the centerfield wall to score Dolfo from second.\
Memphis then increased its lead to 4-1 with two runs in the sixth inning. Sophomore Leigh Rowan drew a one-out walk and was followed by a single by Nance. Kassner then cleared the bases with a two-run single to right center.
North Texas mounted its comeback in the top of the seventh inning scoring four runs on three hits. The first four batters in the inning reached base, capped by a two-run single by Kristina Fowler.
Against Oklahoma, Memphis gave up six runs in the first inning on back-to-back-to-back home runs by Samantha Ricketts, Lindsey Vandever and Susan Ogden. The Sooners then scored two runs in the second and two in the third. Oklahoma stranded the bases loaded in three of its four offensive innings.
The Tigers left six base runners on base against Oklahoma and had the bases loaded with one out in the third.
