Game Two Postgame Notes
March 10, 2010
Freshman Morgan Mosby received her first collegiate start, getting the starting nod at shortstop. Keanah Prestridge led off the game with her second double of the day and second of the season. In the leadoff spot for the first time this season, Prestridge hit the first pitch of the game to deep center. Vanessa Walle hit a grand slam in the third inning for her first home run of the season. It is her third career homer. The grand slam is the third in Memphis history and first since Melissa Nance hit one against Alcorn State on April 15, 2008. Nance had two in her three-year career. The four RBI are the first four of the season for Walle and also scored Lelani Bernardino, Leigh Rowan and Maddie McKinley. The four RBI gives Vanessa Walle her third career multi-RBI game and first of the season. Maddie McKinley hit a solo home run to left field to lead off the sixth inning. The home run is the first of the season for McKinley and seventh of her career. She now has eight RBI on the season. Vanessa Walle had a career high in strikeouts with seven. Her previous best was six, which she has done three times with the last against UAB on April 28, 2009. Morgan Mosby laced a double to right center for her first career hit, which knocked in her first career RBI. Kim Sirman scored from third on the double.
Vanessa Walle knocked in her fifth RBI of the game with a single up the middle in the seventh inning. The five RBI are a career high with her previous best being two. She had her second-straight multi-hit game with the home run and the single. Walle improves to 4-4 on the season with the win.
