Led by a 2-for-3 performance by freshman Nikki Moreno, the Tigers (13-12) scored a run in the third and seventh inning in the loss. Memphis brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh with two outs. The U of M is now 2-2 in the tournament hosted by the University of Hawai'i. Sophomore Janelle Valle (4-7) suffered the loss for the Tigers, allowing three earned runs on seven hits. She struck out three batters and walked two. Kellie Snooks (7-0) earned the victory, giving up two runs on seven hits with two K's and no walks. Radford (11-3) took a 3-0 lead in the second inning on a three-run homer to left by Jenn Everhart. Nichole Beall led off the inning with an infield single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. A throwing error on a groundball hit by Shannon Keefe put runners at second and third with no outs, allowing Everhard to knock in the runs. Memphis shortened the Highlanders lead to two with a run in the bottom of the third. Moreno led off the inning with a single through the left side and advanced to third on a sacrifice slap by freshman Lelani Bernardino. An infield single by senior Leandra Hines followed by a steal put runners at second and third with one out. Senior Leila Dolfo then hit a swinging bunt single in front of the plate that scored pinch runner Kim Sirman from third. The Highlanders regained a three-run lead in the fifth inning, scoring a run on two hits. Keefe hit a one-out infield single and stole second. After advancing to third on a ground ball, Michele Beall hit a bloop single on the right line to score Keefe. The Tigers' comeback in the bottom of the seventh fell short. Freshman Kamri Chester led off the inning with a double to right center and scored on a RBI groundout by pinch hitter Leigh Rowan. Moreno singled for the singled time in the game with two outs, but Snooks retired Bernardino to end the game. Memphis will continue its play in the Chevron Spring Fling Tournament on Friday against tournament host Hawai'i at 7 p.m. (Hawaiian Standard Time). The Tigers close out the tournament on Saturday against Wisconsin.
