MEMPHIS - Despite the University of Memphis softball team outscoring Tulsa 2-1 after the first inning, the Golden Hurricane surged to a series conference sweep of the Tigers with a 10-run opening frame. Memphis (13-16, 1-5) dropped the final game of the three-game series at the Tigers Softball Complex on Sunday, 11-2.

Junior Leigh Rowan provided nearly all of the Memphis offense with two solo home runs in her two at-bats. The dingers are the first of the season for the designated player who leads the team in hitting with a .387 average.

U of M starting pitcher Kimber Bossom (5-4) lasted just a third of an inning, as Tulsa (20-9, 6-2) jumped to a 10-run lead in the first inning on eight hits. Kailey Yarmer hit a three-run homer to begin the scoring and also singled and scored later in the inning. Vanessa Vice hit a two-run single her second time through the order to cap the offensive showcase.

After the rocky start, sophomore reliever Janelle Valle held TU to one run on three hits in the final four innings. Valle allowed one earned run on seven hits in four and two-thirds innings. She struck out five, including two to end the third with runners on first and third.

Rowan hit her solo homers in her only two at bats, connecting on one to right center in the second and one to left in the fifth. Senior Tori Gross hit a two-out double in the fourth for the only other Memphis hit.

Tulsa's Katie Lee (6-3) earned the victory, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out three.

Memphis will next host a midweek doubleheader with Tennessee State on Wednesday beginning at 1 p.m. at the Tiger Softball Complex.
