Memphis Softball Falls to Lipscomb in Extra Innings, 3-1

The University of Memphis softball team (13-18) falls 3-1 in eight innings to Lipscomb (27-5), Wednesday night at the Tigers Softball Complex.
Kelly Braman, with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, tripled to right field. Ellen Roberts followed with a single to bring in Hill to tie the score at 1-1 and send the game into extra innings. Lipscomb came through with two hits in the eighth inning to pull ahead with a 3-1 score.
Ashley Anderson (12-0) also threw her 10th complete game of the season and finished the game with 10 strikeouts.
Kelsey Cartwright finished the game with three hits and two RBI's. Paige Neely and Bridgette Begle had two hits each. Cartwright doubled to left field to give the Bisons their first hit of the game in the first inning but was stranded on second.
Brittany Vaughn reached base for the eighth straight game, as Anderson walked her in the first inning. Irvin gave the Tigers their first hit of the game as she singled to left field in the first.
Begle hit a blooper to left field as it looked like Lipscomb was going to break through with a run in the second. Center fielder Lindsay Crowdus made a spectacular throw to catcher Amber Lindahl to tag out the runner at home plate to end the inning.
Neely hit a double over Crowdus' head to give Lipscomb their third hit of the game in the top of the third. Cartwright followed Neely with a double of her own to center field, which brought in Neely to give the Bisons a 1-0 lead in the third.
Wheeler Hill, with two outs in the sixth, broke through with a single over Anderson's head to give the Tigers their second hit of the game.
Neely had her second hit of the game, a double to left field, in the eighth inning. Cartwright hit a double of her own to bring in Neely to give the Bisons a 2-1 lead. Lipscomb added to their lead with a blooper by Kristen Sturdivant that brought in Cartwright, and gave Lipscomb a 3-1 lead.
The Tigers were unable to provide a hit in the bottom of the eighth, ending the game with a score of 3-1.
Memphis continues American Athletic Conference play with a road series against Connecticut this weekend. The Tigers will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 11 a.m. (CT), and the final game on Sunday at 10 a.m. (CT).
