Richwood Shuts Out Belmont, 2-0

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Sophomore RHP Jordan Richwood threw a three-hit shutout as Memphis won 2-0 in game two of a doubleheader over Belmont at E.S. Rose Park on Tuesday evening.
The Tigers (15-26) split the doubleheader after losing game one to the Bruins (12-17), 7-0.
Richwood (7-8) struck out seven and allowed just one walk in seven innings for her first shutout of the season and fourth of her career. It is the second shutout of the season for Memphis and snapped a program-high nine-game losing streak.
Senior outfielder Lelani Bernardino went 2-for-4 and drive in both Memphis runs. Senior shortstop Laura Curtis and freshman outfielder Hannah Harrell also had a pair of hits for the Tigers in the win.
Memphis took a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Freshman third baseman Cierra Mangum led off the inning with a single to left and advanced to second on a sac bunt. With two outs, Bernardino drove Mangum in with a single to center.
The Tigers added to their lead in the fifth inning, scoring a second two-out run. Harrell collected an infield hit and scored on a triple down the right field line by Bernardino.
Belmont had just four base runners in the game and was outhit by Memphis, 9-3. The Bruins had just one runner reach third base with Kirbie Ferrell leading off the bottom of the first with a triple. But Ferrell was retired on a double play after Amanda Criscione lined out on a squeeze bunt attempt.
Carolyn Snodgress (4-5) suffered the loss, allowing two runs on nine hits with one strikeout in six innings of work.
Memphis will next travel to Hattiesburg, Miss., for a three-game conference series at Southern Miss on Saturday and Sunday.
