Tulsa Tops Memphis in Game One of Doubleheader

MEMPHIS - The University of Memphis softball team was unable to overcome a five-run second inning by Tulsa, falling 13-4 in game one of their doubleheader Friday at the Memphis Softball Complex. It is Memphis' fourth straight loss to the Golden Hurricane, dating back to last season. The Lady Tigers (23-13, 3-6 C-USA) have never beaten Tulsa in their two-year history. Senior first baseman Kara Ross was two-for-three with a RBI in single in the fifth inning that drove in sophomore teammate Leila Dolfo. Dolfo reached on an RBI double that scored sophomore right fielder Brittany Gooch. Senior third baseman Bridgette McNulty, who came into the contest with hits in nine of her last twelve at bats, drew three walks and scored the Lady Tigers first run of the ball game on a single by senior center fielder Lindsey Pridgen. Pridgen also doubled in the sixth-inning before scoring on a Tori Gross single. Lad Tiger senior starter Jenna Kubesch surrendered 15 hits and eight earned runs in a full seven innings of work. She falls to 14-6 on the season. Notes Leila Dolfo hit her team-leading 14th double in the fifth inning to score Brittany Gooch from second base for the second Memphis run of the game. The RBI is the 15th of the season for Dolfo and the run is Gooch's 11th. Kara Ross had an RBI single down the left line in the fifth to score Dolfo. The RBI is her team-leading 25th of the year and Dolfo's 22nd run. Ross had her team-leading 11th multi-hit game with two singles. Lindsey Pridgen led off the sixth inning with her sixth double of the year down the left field line. Lindsey Pridgen had her fifth multi-hit game of the year with a single and double. Tori Gross knocked in her ninth RBI in the sixth inning on a single to left-center to score Lindsey Pridgen from second. The run is Pridgen's 11th of the year. Memphis is now 0-4 all-time against Tulsa.
