Memphis, Tenn. -- University of Memphis softball team dropped a 9-0 contest to the Houston Cougars in game two of the American Athletic Conference series on Saturday afternoon at Tigers Softball Complex.

Jordan Richwood (1-2) took the loss, allowing 12 hits while going the distance with 126 pitches.

With the loss, Memphis fell to 17-24 overall and 2-8 in conference play. Houston improves to 26-11 and 11-0.

Houston started quickly in the game. With two outs in the first inning Tiffani McKnight singled to the pitcher and then advanced to second on a throwing error. After both Haley Outon and Jaime Edwards were walked, the bases were loaded. Kayla Holland singled to shortstop, sending McKnight home.

McKnight hit a home run over the right field wall for the Cougars, which scored herself and Kendra Cullum in the sixth. The Cougars scored two more runs in the top of the seventh to take the nine run lead.

The Tigers had multiple chances throughout the game, but stranded seven base runners overall, including leaving the bases loaded in the third inning and

stranding two in the fifth inning. Lindsay Crowdus went 1-for-3 with a walk, finishing with five hits in the day. Cierra Mangum went 1-for1 with two walks in the loss.

The Tigers and the Cougars will return to action for the final game of the series on Sunday at 11 a.m. (CT) at Tigers Softball Complex.

The game will also be Pouncer's Pals Spring Fling with an egg hunt after the contest with Pouncer on the field.
