@MemphisSoftball Completes Doubleheader Sweep Over Alcorn State, 9-0

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -
The University of Memphis (22-26) completed a doubleheader sweep over Alcorn State (7-34) with a 9-0 score, Wednesday evening. Kelly Braman came through with a hit to deep left center field in the sixth inning to bring in two runs for the Tigers.
Calli Irvin (1-1) picked up her first win of the season as she finished with three strikeouts in 4.0 innings pitched. Irvin retired 15 straight batters while in the circle for Memphis. Christian Novak had four strikeouts in 2.0 innings pitched.
Georganna Goodwin went 3-for-3 in game two of the doubleheader and finished with a single, a triple, and a home run. Braman and Breslin Perry recorded two hits each, as Ijiah Hargrove and Brittany Vaughn added a hit apiece.
The Tigers started the game with a three-run first inning, which included a two-run homer from Goodwin.
Chqueta Givens started the second game just as she did the first with a single up the center for the Lady Braves in the first. Novak struck out her first batter of the evening to retire the inning and strand Givens on first.
Wheeler Hill was able to reach second base for the Tigers off an error by the Lady Braves to start the game. Jaye Smith hit a sacrifice fly out to center field as Hill tagged up and reached third. Vaughn followed as she batted into a fielder's choice with Hill beating the throw at home to give Memphis a 1-0 lead.
Goodwin recorded her fourth home run of the season with a shot over the left field fence. The hit brought in Vaughn and gave the Tigers a 3-0 lead.
Kelsey James was able to get a hit for the Lady Braves as she singled to center in the second inning. Novak picked up her second and third strikeouts of the game to retire the inning and strand James at first.
Irvin was walked and then advanced to second as Cierra Mangum batted in a fielder's choice in the second. Perry followed with her first double of the season with a hit to left field. The hit brought in Irvin as Perry also picked up her first RBI of the season, giving Memphis the 4-0 lead after two innings.
Irvin retired Novak in the third inning for the Tigers. Irvin picked up her first strikeout of the evening, as the Lady Braves were unable to get anything going in the third.
Goodwin singled up the center to start things off for the Tigers in the third. Braman followed with a single of her own to right field, as Goodwin advanced to second. The two were stranded on base to end the third inning leading, 3-0.
The Lady Braves had their first three batters in the fourth inning fail to reach base as Irvin retired nine straight batters to start the game.
Perry recorded her second hit of the game with a single to left field but was stranded on base to retire the fourth.
Irvin continued her dominant performance in the circle in the fifth as she retired 12 straight batters, including her third strikeout of the game.
Goodwin hit a triple in the fifth to bring in two for the Tigers, giving them a 6-0 lead over the Lady Braves. Libby Goranson followed with a fly-out to deep center field, which brought in Goodwin and gave Memphis a 7-0 lead.
Irvin picked up another strikeout in the sixth as she retired her first 15 batters she faced.
Braman came through with a hit to deep left center field to bring in two runs for the Tigers and complete the doubleheader sweep over Alcorn State, 9-0.
The Tigers hit the road for a three-game conference series in Tampa, Fla. against South Florida with games on Saturday and Sunday.
