Bernardino Scores 100th Career Run in @MemphisSoftball Win

MARTIN, Tenn. - Senior Lelani Bernardino became the second player in University of Memphis softball history to score 100 career runs as the Tigers defeated UT Martin on the road, 4-2, Wednesday afternoon.

Bernardino scored runs in the first and seventh innings to reach the century plateau. She ranks second in school history behind Leila Dolfo who scored 125 runs between 2006-09.

Bernardino also tied a school record with her 19th consecutive game reaching base. During the streak, she has hit safely in 17 of the 19 games. She matches Heather Mott's streak from 2011.

The Tigers (22-32) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning with a pair of sacrifice bunts and never trailed in the game. Senior second baseman Morgan Mosby drove in a pair of runs, adding to her team season lead with 25 RBI on the year. Junior first baseman Kelly Braman went 2-for-3 and hit her second home run in three games.

Junior RHP Ellen Roberts (13-21) picked up her 13th win of the season, allowing two runs on four hits with six strikeouts. She did not walk a batter in a complete-game effort.

Memphis took an early 2-0 lead with the short game to open play. Bernardino walked to lead off the game and advanced to third on a stolen base and a bunt single by freshman outfielder Hannah Harrell. Mosby drove in the first run of the game with a sac bunt to score Bernardino and shortly after junior catcher Amber Lindahl drove in Harrell with a sac. The Tigers stranded the bases loaded with one out in the inning.

UT Martin (30-17) regained a run in the third inning after loading the bases with no outs. A one-out sacrifice fly to center by Leah Taylor drove in Deven Wilson to cut the Memphis lead to 2-1.

Braman gave Memphis back its two-run lead with a solo home run to left center in the sixth inning. The homer is her second of the season after hitting her first dinger of the year over the weekend at East Carolina.

Bernardino scored her second run in the game in the seventh inning after hitting a one-out double to left center. Mosby drove her in from third on a two-out single to left.

The Skyhawks scored its second run in the bottom of the inning to make it 4-2. Becca Williams doubled to left center and scored on a two-out double by Wilson.

Wilson had two of UT Martin's four hits, finishing 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Casey Vincent (12-8) suffered the loss after allowing two runs on three hits in four innings. She struck out four and walked one.

Memphis returns home to host its final games at the Tigers Softball Complex. The Tigers will host a three-game series with Houston on Saturday and Sunday. Prior to Sunday's 1 p.m. match-up, the U of M will honor its four seniors. Admission to all three games is free.
