@MemphisSoftball Ends Season with Loss to Houston in C-USA Tournament

TULSA, Okla. - No. 2 seeded Houston knocked the University of Memphis out of the Conference USA Championship Tournament with a 9-1, five-inning victory over the Tigers on Thursday afternoon.
Houston (39-17) took control of the game early, jumping to a 4-0 lead in the first inning and adding a run in the second and four more runs on a grand slam in the third.
Memphis (24-36) had six hits in the game, but stranded six runners on base. Senior outfielder Lelani Bernardino led the No. 7 seeded Tigers offensively, finishing 2-for-3 with a run scored. Senior second baseman Morgan Mosbywent 1-for-3 with an RBI.
The Cougars jumped to a 4-0 lead in the first inning with four hits and three walks. Katie St. Pierre led off with a double down the left line and advanced to third on a wild pitch. After a walk to Kendra Cullum, St. Pierre scored the first run on a double steal. A RBI double by Holly Anderson and a RBI single from Kayla Holland gave the Cougars a 3-0 lead before recording an out. Jaime Edwards later added a two-out RBI single to cap the scoring.
Haley Outon increased Houston's lead to 5-0 with a RBI two-out double to right center in the second inning to score St. Pierre from third.
Memphis scored its only run in the third inning. Ijiah Hargroveled off the frame with a single up the left line. After reaching on a fielder's choice, Bernardino scored from second on a single to right center by Mosby. The Tigers left runners on first and second to end the inning.
A grand slam by Kendra Cullum in the third inning broke the game open for Houston, giving the Cougars a 9-1 lead. Houston loaded the bases on a pair of singles and a walk with one out before Cullum hit the 2-2 pitch just over the left field fence.
Sophomore RHP Jordan Richwood (8-12) suffered the loss after allowing four runs on two hits and two walks to open the game. Junior RHP Ellen Robertspitched four innings and allowed five runs on five hits with three walks.
Diedre Outon (12-6) picked up the victory for Houston in the circle, allowing one run on six hits with three strikeouts in five innings.
St. Pierre finished 2-for-2 in the game with three runs scored, while Cullum went 1-for-1 with four RBI and two runs scored for Houston.
Houston advances to the C-USA semifinals to play the winner between No. 3 seed Tulsa and No. 6 UCF on Friday at 2 p.m.
