MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of Memphis softball team used timely hitting and control in the circle to break away late for an 8-2 win in the third game against Christian Brothers for the 2012 fall season.

The Tigers were fueled by Libby Goranson and Ellen Roberts as Goranson hit 4-for-4 with a home run and Roberts threw a one-hitter and struck out eight.

Goranson got the Tigers going in the first inning with a double to right center before Ashleigh King drove in Wheeler Hill with a single up the middle to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead in the top half of the inning.

Christian Brothers tied it up in the bottom of the first without getting a hit as Nikki Story walked and rounded the bases on two groundouts and a wild pitch to knot the game at 1-1.

In the fourth inning, Roberts gave Memphis the lead back with the team's first home run of the fall with a shot over the center field wall for a 2-1 lead. The Lady Bucs answered right back in the bottom half of the inning with a home run of their own just over the left field wall by Taylor Rosa-Ramon to tie the game at two through four innings.

Lelani Bernardino scored Memphis' third run of the game by leading the team off with a walk to begin the fifth inning. Jaye Smith and Goranson each recorded singles to help bring home Bernardino for a 3-2 advantage. In the sixth inning, the Tigers tacked on another run as Hill and Jami Miller hit singles to left field before Lindsie Knowles brought home Hill with a single to right field for a 4-2 lead.

The Tigers lit up the scoreboard in the seventh inning, adding four runs for an 8-2 lead. Hannah Harrell started Memphis off with an infield single followed by a Morgan Mosby double to bring home Harrell. Smith added another single in the inning to score Mosby before Goranson launched the Tigers' second home run of the game by sending the ball over the left field wall.

Behind Goranson's four hits, Roberts, Smith and Miller all added two hits for the Tigers to help total 15 on the day. Roberts earned her second win in as many games while Tiari-Jay Fernandez took the loss for the Lady Bucs.

Memphis will close out its fall season Saturday, Oct. 20 when the team travels to Conway, Ark., to battle Central Arkansas in a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
