IRVING, Texas - Conference USA softball coaches selected returning University of Memphis junior infielder Leila Dolfo to the league's preseason all-conference team on Wednesday.

The Chula Vista, Calif., native led the Tigers last season in several offensive categories, including home runs (11), doubles (19), hits (63) and runs scored (34). She became the program's first C-USA All-Conference first team selection in 2007 after being named to the league's all-freshman team in 2006.

Dolfo enters the season with a .301 career batting average, 16 home runs and 64 RBI. She has been named the Tiger Offensive Player of the Year in both years of the program's existence.

The Tigers were picked to finish seventh in the 2008 C-USA Preseason Coach's Poll. Last year, Memphis finished sixth in the league with a 36-25 overall record and 10-12 in conference play. The U of M earned its first bid to the C-USA Championship Tournament and knocked off third seeded Tulsa in the opening game.

The Tigers return 10 letterwinners from last season and are joined by six freshman. Memphis begins its 2008 campaign on February 8 in Tampa, Fla., at the USF Wilson Invitational. The Tigers will play in tournaments in Florida and Arizona before opening its home schedule at the Tiger Softball Complex on February 20 with a doubleheader against Central Arkansas.

Houston was selected as the preseason favorite to win the 2008 Conference USA regular season softball title for the third consecutive year. The Cougars were a unanimous choice earning 81 points to claim the honor. East Carolina, the 2007 regular season and tournament runner-up, garnered 62 points to grab the second place spot, followed by UCF (57) in third and Tulsa in fourth (51).

Houston senior RHP Angel Shamblin was tabbed as the C-USA Preseason Pitcher of the Year for the second year in a row, while 2007 C-USA Player of the Year junior Jessica Valis of Houston was selected as the Preseason Player of the Year.
